# Difference between theft and cheating?

Theft

1. Theft define under section 378 of IPC.
2. The subject matter of theft is movable property.
3. Dishonest intention is enough.
4. Provocation for any work does not amount to theft.

Cheating

1. Cheating defined under section 415 of IPC.
2. The subject matter of cheating can be movable or immovable property.
3. A person is deceived fraudulent and dishonestly.
4. Any act which cause physically mental loss or loss to the reputation or Goodwill will be considered cheating.
